Can Women Perform Umrah Without a Mahram?

Yes, women can now perform Umrah without a Mahram. Saudi Arabia removed the male-guardian requirement in 2022, so women of any age can travel for Umrah alone or in a group, with no Mahram and no permission needed. We arrange a women-only group with a female leader so no woman travels by herself, and book hotels near the women's gate of Masjid an-Nabawi for easy access to prayer.

Umrah Rules for Women

There are 3 rules specific to women performing Umrah:

Ihram for a woman is her normal modest clothing in any colour, with the face and hands uncovered during Ihram, unlike men's two white sheets.
A woman recites the Talbiyah quietly, not aloud.
During menstruation, a woman enters Ihram and makes the intention, but delays Tawaf around the Kaaba and the prayer until she is pure, then completes the Umrah. She still makes du'a and dhikr.
